Essential Oil Tips

1.The quality of essential oil is important. Make sure you are using a high quality brand that provides third party testing for their oils.

2. Less is always more. Since they are so potent, start with less, and you can always add more.

3. Don’t know where to start? Lemon, Peppermint, Lavender, Tea Tree, and Frankincense are great ones to start with because they provide so many great uses and benefits.

4. Need a great oil for the morning or a great one for a pick me up during the afternoon? Grab Peppermint.

5. Trying to remove sticky residue? Use Lemon.

6. Having trouble sleeping? Try Lavender, Roman Chamomile or Frankincense at night.

One Step at a Time

7. When first getting started, it’s easy to feel overwhelmed. That’s why a trick I learned is to take one step at a time. Learn how to use them in one way then move onto other ways. You will look back on a year from now and be amazed at how much you have learned!

8. Are you looking for a soothing and calming oil that is great for all ages? Lavender is a great option!

9. Essential oils can be used to make simple, non-toxic recipes.

10. Don’t know which oil to use? Frankincense is always a great choice.

11. Make sure to dilute essential oils with an organic carrier oil before applying topically.

12. Carrier oils to use can be fractionated coconut oil, jojoba oil, grapeseed oil, coconut oil, olive oil, etc.

13. Have oils you use often? Keep them out and in sight, so they are easy to get to!

14. Store other essential oils in a wooden box, out of direct sunlight, and somewhere cool.

Add a dropper top for easy use

15. Add a dropper top for thicker oils like Vetiver and Myrrh to easily get oil drops out.

16. Diffuse all day by wearing diffuser jewelry.

17. Don’t have a diffuser? Put a drop or two in the palm of your hand, rub your hands together, cup over your nose, and breathe in deeply for 3 breaths.

Detox baths

18. Easily add a couple of drops of essential oils to your bath for added benefits. Here are some great detox bath recipes you can use!

19. Add a drop or two of a therapeutic grade citrus essential oil to your water for a refreshing twist.

21. Make sure to always use glass bottles and containers when dealing with essential oils and creating DIY recipes.

22. Never buy oils off of Amazon because you never know who is selling them or what is actually in those bottles.

Cleaning your diffusers

24. Make sure to clean your diffusers with white vinegar around once a week.

25. Add 2 drops of Lemon to your laundry for a fresh, clean scent.

26. Do you travel a lot? Make sure to get a travel diffuser and carrying case, so you can easily take your oils with you on the road.

27. Essential oils can be used for emotional support and to reduce stress. Some great ones to use are Lavender, Wild Orange, and Frankincense.

28. Lavender, Wild Orange, Frankincense, and Roman Chamomile are kid-safe essential oils that are easy to use during those rough moments when diffused or properly diluted.

DIY Essential Oil Room Freshener Spray

32. Make a simple and non-toxic air freshener spray using essential oils.

Add 20 drops of Lemon essential oil.
Add 20 drops of Melaleuca or tea tree essential oil.
Add 1 tbsp of witch hazel.
Fill an 8 oz glass spray bottle the rest of the way with distilled water.
Put on a spray top, and shake the bottle to mix well.

33. If you ever have a negative reaction using essential oils stop use immediately! It’s not a sign your body is detoxing.

34. Get an essential oil roller bottle case, so you can easily take them on the go with you.

38. Reuse oil essential oil bottles by cleaning them, adding in blends you love, and adding a rollerball on top for a quick and easy way to make rollerballs for your family!

39. Don’t want to create your own DIY rollerball blends? Try some premade blends to help support your body.

40. Add a drop or two of your favorite essential oil to the middle of the toilet paper roll when you replace it for a fresh scent every time you use the restroom.

41. Easily diffuse essential oils in your home by adding a drop or two of essential oil to a clothespin and clipping it to a vent.

42. This same clothespin technique can be used in the vents of your car to give you an easy diffuser for the ride.

43. Don’t have any diffuser jewelry to use? Add a drop or two of essential oils on your scarf.

44. Keep diffusers in the rooms in your home you use most often. This way you don’t have to move the diffuser depending on where you want to use it.

Staying organized with essential oil storage

45. Do you use different essential oils for each of your family members? I great way to keep them straight is to keep a shelf of oils in each person’s’ room. This way you have easy access to their specific oils or blends anytime you need them! It’s a great way to keep your oils organized.

46. Keep all your favorite essential oil recipes in one digital location for quick and easy access. You can create an Evernote notebook or use a Trello board to easily organize and keep your recipes right at your fingertips!

47. Don’t like organizing digitally? Organize your essential oil recipes in an Essential Oil Recipe book or grab some essential oil printable pages to create your own binder!

48. Make sure to always dilute essential oils especially with babies and kids! For babies and toddlers the general recommendation is about one drop of essential oil per 1 tablespoon of organic carrier oil. The general recommendation on children is one drop of essential oil per 1 teaspoon of organic carrier oil. As babies and children get older, you can start diluting the essential oils a little bit less.

49. Keep learning! Essential oils can help support your health in so many different ways. They are such an amazing tool to keep in your back pocket as needed. Since there is so much to using them, it can seem overwhelming at times. My best advice is to keep going, keep learning, and keep enjoying the therapeutic benefits they offer.

Can you apply essential oil directly to the skin?

Most essential oils you want to apply with some sort of organic carrier oil (like fractionated coconut oil, grapeseed oil, or olive oil). There are some, like Lavender, that some people apply directly to the skin, but I always recommend diluting your oils before applying topically.
